It is one of the most photographed lighthouses in The United States. Portland Head's lantern was illuminated on January, 10, 1791. Its first lightkeeper was appointed by President George Washington.

L.L. Bean has been a fixture on Main Street in Freeport, Maine, since it opened shop there 90 years ago in 1917. The locks on the doors were removed in 1951 when the decision was made to keep the store open 24 hours a day year-round. Today, 3.5 million shoppers visit L.L. Bean in Freeport each year.

View lighthouses, sea life, the rocky shores of Maine and the working waterfront that make up this busy harbor. The ferry makes a brief stop for Squirrel Island passengers.


Pemaquid Lighthouse
The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse stands 30 ft. above ground and is 79 ft. above sea level. The tower itself is not accessible to the public, but the adjoining museum has an identical fourth-order Fresnel lens on view. The Museum offers displays of fishing techniques & equipment of the past & present. There is also a navigational room with old charts & navigation aids as well as a picture gallery with some fine half models of fishing boats & many photographs.
