Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is a 52-acre living museum where beauty, romance, and fun blossom among world-class plant collections and specialty gardens. Admired as an urban horticultural and botanical resource, BBG inspires visitors to discover that plants are essential to life.
90 Min. Guided Tour. This is a walking tour. There are no trams.
All of the Garden is wheelchair accessible. Recent renovations in the Herb Garden and Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden have made the paths wider, smoother, and barrier-free. The Steinhardt Conservatory has an elevator, as does the Administration Building. The front section of the parking lot has a designated section for handicap parking.
Wheelchairs are available from the Garden, if needed. They can be loaned out with a driver's license or ID and a $20 deposit that's fully refunded when the chair is returned. You can pick them up from the security officer at the desk at 1000 Washington Avenue. However, admissions cannot be processed at that location; someone from your party will have to go to one of the other entrances for admission to the Garden, then go to the security desk at 1000 Washington Avenue for the wheelchair.
Brooklyn Musuem
The Brooklyn Museum, housed in a 560,000-square-foot, Beaux-Arts building, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the country. Its world-renowned permanent collections range from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art, and represent a wide range of cultures.
The Museum is part of a complex of nineteenth-century parks and gardens that also includes Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Prospect Park Zoo.
Museum entrances are wheelchair accessible. Complimentary wheelchairs may be borrowed at the Coat Check on the first floor. Wheelchair-accessible rest rooms are located on the first and third floors. Wheelchair lifts have been installed on the third floor in the gallery of ancient Middle Eastern art. Please note that due to weight limits, motorized wheelchairs may only reach the third-floor galleries through the Schapiro wing.
All of the Museum's public spaces are wheelchair accessible, with the exception of areas leading to some period rooms in the Decorative Arts collection on the fourth floor.
Wheelchairs are available on a limited quantity, on a first-come, first-served basis at the coat-check in area in the Grand Lobby.
