Kentuck Knob
Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, both dramatic and serene, the house, situated just below the crest of the hill, appears almost part of the mountain itself and stands 2,050 feet above sea level. Cantilevered overhangs and great expanses of glass effortlessly integrate the inside with the outside. Designed on a hexagonal module, Kentuck Knob is a 2200 sq. ft., one-level Usonian home.

Kentuck Knob is constructed of native sandstone and red cypress from North Carolina that blend naturally with the surroundings. The fully functioning kitchen is the architectural core of the home. The walls of stone not only anchor the two wings of the house but they also rise to meet the horizontal line of the copper roof. Just beyond the back patio is a breathtaking panorama of the Youghiogheny River Gorge and the beautiful Laurel Highlands.

Kentuck Knob represents a refinement of the many principles of organic architecture Mr. Wright explored throughout his long career. Today, the interior reflects the taste and personalities of the current owners, Hayat and Peter Palumbo, who are committed to preserve and maintain the house for the enjoyment of all those who, like them, share a deep admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright's genius.

Children under 6, including infants and toddlers, are not permitted.

Flight 93 National Memorial
Visit the site of the Flight 93 National Memorial.
The memorial plaza overlooks the ground that was tragically first broken on September 11, 2001 when United Flight 93 plunged into a remote Pennsylvania field while its passengers and crew members heroically fought to resist a terrorist attack on our nation's capital.

The visit includes the Visitor Center with its many touching exhibits, the Memorial Plaza with the Wall of Names of the 40 Heros of Flight 93, and a stop at the Tower of Voices, a 93-foot tall tower housing 40 windchimes that will ring in the breeze at Flight 93.

The visit is self-guided with indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Please be prepared for inclement weather. The Western Overlook is located on a very windy hillside. Most visitors find the site much colder than the surrounding area.

Coal Miners' Cafe
This hometown favorite contains memorabilia from the coal mining in the area and especially, the Quecreek Mine Rescue.

Flight 93 Memorial Chapel
The Flight 93 Memorial Chapel was dedicated on the first anniversary of 9/11 to honor God and the memory of the 40 heroes of Flight 93. In the chapel you see many moving mementos donated by family members and others who wish to honor the heroes. Hearts are touched as you visit the chapel and the Flight 93 Crew Monument in the garden area behind the chapel. Donated by United Airlines Flight Attendants Cause Foundation and dedicated on 9/11/2006, the monument entitled "Forever in Our Hearts" is a 16 ton black granite obelisk.

Quecreek Mine Rescue Site
Visit the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site where, on July 28, 2002 nine miners were miraculously rescued from 240 feet beneath the earth in a farmer's field just outside of Somerset, PA. Hear of the events from the time the accident occurred until the last miner was brought up and you will understand that God was at work here. The rescue site has been developed into a beautiful garden and you will see the actual rescue capsule, the broken drill bit and many more artifacts from the Quecreek rescue and mining in general in the Educational Visitor Center.
