Rising Sun Tavern
Built by Charles Washington in 1760 as his home, this building was later operated as a tavern - the only "proper" tavern in the bustling port city of Fredericksburg. The "tavern wenches" at the Rising Sun today entertain visitors as though they have just stepped off a stagecoach in a lively interpretation of 18th-century tavern life.

Learn about the many famous and interesting people who have been to the city, including those who have called Fredericksburg home, such as George Washington. Hear about events that have taken place since the city was established in 1728 including four major Civil War battles all fought within 15 miles of the city. Learn about the many unique shops and restaurants still operating in buildings hundreds of years old!

A. Smith Bowman Distillery
Founded in 1935, A. Smith Bowman Distillery is a small craft distillery that produces award-winning hand-crafted spirits.

Named for a true American pioneer, Captain Isaac Bowman was a soldier and militia officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War. In the late 1700s, he settled at the Fort Bowman estate in Northern Virginia.

Mary Washington House
The Mary Washington House was purchased by George Washington for his mother in 1772. This simple frame house features English-style gardens that have been restored. The house contains some of her prized possessions as well as many fine period pieces.

Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop
The Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop consists of an 18th century building depicting the medical office & apothecary shop of Dr. Mercer. It was at George Washington's suggestion that he begin his medical practice in Fredericksburg. Mercer joined the Continental Army in 1776 and died heroically at the Battle of Princeton.

"Miracle on 34th Street" Performance at Riverside Center
A holiday classic from the writer of the musical theatre masterpiece, The Music Man!, and based on the movie of the same name, Meredith Willson's Miracle on 34th Street follows Kris Kringle as he takes on the cynics in this beloved holiday classic. Single mother Doris Walker doesn't want her six-year-old Susan's head filled with romantic notions. When their neighbor, Fred Gaily, tries to woo Doris by charming Susan and taking her to see Santa Claus at Macy's, where Doris works, Doris is not impressed. But when it turns out that Macy's Santa may, in fact, be the real Kris Kringle, a wave of love spreads across New York City that melts even the most cynical hearts. Filled with humor, spectacle, and such beloved songs as "Pinecones and Hollyberries," "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas," and "My State, My Kansas," this joyous, heartwarming musical is pure family entertainment.

Fredericksburg Battlefield Tour
The Battle of Fredericksburg was one of the most lopsided victories for Confederate General Robert E. Lee. From December 11-15, 1862, the Federal Army of the Potomac attempted to dislodge Lee's army from the fortified heights on the west and south sides of the city of Fredericksburg. Although the Federals did manage to breakthrough Lee's right flank, the success was short lived, and the Confederate position held strong for the remainder of the battle.

Kenmore Mansion
Kenmore is the elegant plantation home of George Washington's sister, Betty, and her patriot husband, Colonel Fielding Lewis. The mansion is known for its ornate plaster work ceilings and the Aesop's fable theme over the dining room mantel is said to have been suggested by Washington himself.

During the holiday season, see A Wee Christmas.
A holiday season exhibit of highly detailed, replica dollhouses - including the Kenmore mansion - and miniatures in the Crowninshield Museum Building. Enjoy exploring the treasures in this festive display!
