For Immediate Release:

Starr Tours is excited to announce the celebration of its 75th anniversary. Starr has remained a family-owned business for 75 years, growing from just a couple of buses to a vast fleet of 35 buses and tour offerings to over 150 destinations worldwide. Gilbert Sussman started the Trenton-based business in 1947 with a simple line run to and from Hightstown, NJ, and for years that was the essence of the company, shuttling people from one stop to the next. (Starr is the maiden name of Sussman’s wife.) But in 1964, when New York hosted the World’s Fair, Sussman saw an opportunity and offered people not just a ride from one point to the next but an actual packaged trip. Then, when the Atlantic City casino industry roared to life in the 1980s, Starr soon regularly began running trips down and up the Atlantic City Expressway. The popularity of those trips made growing the geographical reach a logical next step. Starr buses were soon trekking folks to Broadway shows and Lancaster, Pa. and Washington, DC; and eventually every go-to place in the country. From the honky-tonks of Nashville to the moss draped oaks of Savannah, from the lake shores of Michigan’s Mackinac Island to the rocky coast of Maine, Starr covered it all.

Today Starr is the leading provider of transportation and travel in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, priding itself on safety, comfort, service, and reliability. The allure of traveling with Starr is that the tour guests “barely have to lift a finger – Starr takes care of hotel reservations, restaurant bookings, knowledgeable tour escorts, activities, and more,” says Vice President and 3rd-generation family owner Sandy Borowsky.

To celebrate Starr’s 75th anniversary, Starr has planned a 6-day trip to Louisville, KY titled ‘Bourbon, Bluegrass, and Thoroughbreds’, where attendees will participate in activities such as the Kentucky Derby Museum, a distillery tasting and tour, a birthday dinner party with bluegrass entertainment, and more. This Birthday Bash accompanies over 250 other packaged tours from coast to coast, and even a 27-day cross country vacation. Starr’s full vacation catalog can be found here.

Last year, to stay ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, Starr introduced its Clean Care program to ensure that passengers could stay healthy and travel safely with Starr. And, despite the endurance of the pandemic, Starr continues to expand its travel options across the United States and Canada. “If there’s one thing anyone needs right now, it’s a getaway”, says Borowsky. “These past few years have brought uncertainty and challenges into our lives, and Starr could not be happier that we can continue to provide safe, reliable, and exciting travel for our customers.”

In addition, Starr’s Charter Bus Division continues to grow, providing transportation fulfillment, convention shuttle services, school and youth transportation, athletic team transportation, and more. Recently, Starr took over the operations of Eyre Tours. With outings similar to Starr, Eyre trips depart from the Baltimore region. On top of this, Starr recently introduced its College Break Bus program, servicing college students traveling to and home from 7 different universities. After 75 years, Starr continues to grow to meet the transportation and safety needs of travelers across the country.

Starr Tours is a proud member of ABA, IMG, GNJMA, PBA, and SYTA.
